Open Enrollment Deadline Extended for 2025 Coverage

CMS has announced an extension to the enrollment deadline for coverage starting January 1, 2025. Consumers now have until midnight local time on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 (or no later than 5 a.m. EST on Thursday, December 19), to select or update their health insurance plan. This additional three-day window provides consumers extra time to secure coverage for the entire 2025 plan year.

Who Does This Extension Apply To?

This extension benefits residents of the following 31 states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

If you reside in one of these states and need coverage for the upcoming year, take advantage of this extension and enroll by the new deadline.

Special Extension for Georgia Residents

Georgia, which operates its own state-based exchange, Georgia Access, has also extended its enrollment deadline for coverage beginning January 1, 2025. Georgia consumers have until Friday, December 20, 2024, to select their plans. However, if consumers enroll after December 20, their coverage will start on February 1, 2025. Be sure to finalize the enrollment by December 20 to ensure the members plan is active from January 1.

  • December 20, 2024: Last day for Georgia residents to enroll for January 1, 2025, coverage.
